Scholarship Opportunities - Updated 5/5/10

Looking for scholarships for college seniors? This is a list of some of the scholarship opportunities available to you.

Every senior should make sure to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), your FAFSA must be completed in order to receive scholarships AND to obtain student loans! Remember the FAFSA application period runs from January 1 through March 2. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Guidance Office at (714) 662-7485.

Cabrillo Civic Club Scholarship
Deadline: March 15, 2010

The Cabrillo Civic Club of California has a $500.00 scholarship available for a graduating senior of Portuguese descent.  Awards are made on a competitive basis with consideration being given to GPA, Leadership, Extra-Curricular Activities, Work (Paid or Volunteer), Promise and Membership in the Cabrillo Club. Candidates must have maintained a minimum of 3.50 GPA from grades 9 - 12 and participated in at least three extra-curricular activities while in high school. Applications must be received between January 1st and March 15th. For more information or to pick up an application see the guidance office.

National Honor Society Senior Scholarship
Deadline: May 14, 2010

The National Honor Society will award two scholarships to the class of 2009-2010. Applications can be found in the CCHS office or on the school website. Complete your application and submit it to the CCHS office no later than Friday, May 14, 2010. The National Honor Society will award one scholarship to a student with a GPA of 3.0 to 3.49 and one scholarship to a student with a GPA of a 3.5 or above. Recipients of these scholarships will be announced at the CCHS Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 3rd.

California-Hawaii Elks Association Students With Disabilities
Deadline: March 14, 2010

Any student with a disability is eligible for this award. This award ranges from $1,000 to $2,000 per year and is renewable. For more information or to apply go to www.chea-elks.org.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarships
Deadline: March 12, 2010

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and the McDonald's Operators Association of Southern California (MOASC) are proud to once again sponsor four college scholarship programs for Southern California-area high school seniors. RMHC/African American Future Achievers; RMHC/Asian Pacific American Students Increasing Achievement (ASIA); RMHC/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (HACER); and RMHC/Scholars. Students interested in applying can pick up an application in the high school office. This year, 21 RMHC/African American Future Achievers, 21 RMHC/ASIA, 22 RMHC/Scholars and 40 RMHC/HACER recipients will each receive a $2,000 scholarship. Although students may apply for any scholarship for which they are eligible, if selected they will only be awarded one scholarship. Scholarships are funded through the global and local chapters of RMHC and fundraising efforts of local owner/operators and corporate staff. RMHC of Southern California has awarded more than $3.3 million in scholarship funds to students residing in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

California-Hawaii Elks Association Vocational Grant
Deadline: Three months after downloading the application

Any U.S. citizen planning to pursue a vocational or technical course after high school. This grant is for $1,000 and can be renewed for a second year. For more information or to apply go to www.chea-elks.org.

2010 Sammy Award

Marist College Scholarship
Deadline: February 15, 2010

Marist College with support form the National Science Foundation is offering 12 full tuition, room and board scholarships to students who choose to major in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems. Scholarship recipients will receive a full 4-year tuition, room and board scholarship as well as a state of the art PC laptop, the opportunity to participate in high-level internships and applied research with Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, Aetna, Pepsi, and Verizon. They will also receive special advising from the dean and key faculty in the School of Computer Science, and a two-semester course in game development and design. KFC Colonel's Scholars
Deadline: February 10, 2010

KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must earn a minimum high school cummulative GPA of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within the state of legal residence, plan on pursuing a bachelor's degree, be a U.S. citizen, and demonstrate financial need.

Park Scholar Award - Ithaca College
Deadline: January 15, 2010

The Park Scholar Awards are renewable for up to three years (for a total of four); they cover the full cost of attendance - currently $43,840 per year; and they include stipends for living expenses, books, and a one-time computer purchase of $2,500. 2010 Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Deadline: January 11, 2010

Education is one of the greatest gifts anyone can receive. One thousand students will be selected as Gates Millennium Scholars. Recipients will have the opportunity to attend any U.S. accredited college of their choice, with renewable funding for up to five years in any discipline at the undergraduate level. GMS has funded over 13,000 students and awarded over $500 million in scholarships since its inception. Candidates need to meet application guidelines. Elks National Foundation Legacy Award
Deadline: January 8, 2010

If you are the child or grandchild of an Elks member, you qualify for this scholarship. This award is for $1,000 per year for 4 years. For more information and to apply go to www.elks.org/enf.

California State, Long Beach President's Scholars Program
Deadline: January 4, 2010
 
The President's Scholarships are awarded to California high school seniors who are either valedictorians or National Merit Finalists and Semifinalists. President's Scholars will enjoy a full payment of in-state tuition and general student fees, paid housing, personalized academic advising, exclusive access to the President's Scholars Center, an opportunity for international study abroad programs, an annual book allowance and campus student parking privileges. The application to the President's Scholars Program must be completed and returned by January 4, 2010 in order to be considered.    

Mensa Education & Research Scholarship
Deadline: January 1, 2010

The American Mensa Foundation and Research Foundation awards approximately $60,000 annually in scholarships to students who will be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Each entrant must reside in or receive mail within the area of a participating local Mensa Group. To determine eligibility, prospective entrants should go to www.ocmensa.org, click "Scholarships" and follow the link provided. Awards are judged locally first, then regionally, and finally nationally. Awards of $300 to $1,000 are available, some of which are renewable for up to four years of academic enrollment. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Any high school senior who is a United States citizen is eligible to apply. This award ranges from $1,000 to $15,000 per year for four years. In order to apply go to www.elks.org/enf.

Santa Ana Elks Lodge #794 Most Valuable Student
Deadline: November 2, 2009

Any high school senior who is a United States citizen is eligible to apply. This award ranges from $1,000 to $15,00 per year for four years. Applications are available in the guidance office.

Santa Ana Elks Lodge #794 Student of the Year Award
Deadline: November 2, 2009

Any high school senior who is a United States citizen and has applied for the Elks Most Valuable Student Award is eligible. Applications are available in the guidance office.

Coca-Cola Scholars
Deadline: October 31, 2009

Since the program's inception in 1986, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has awarded more than 4,000 exceptional high school students $35 million in scholarships to attend college. Scholars are selected based upon academic achievement, their capacity to lead, and their hours of dedicated community service. Becoming a Coca-Cola Scholar means a lifetime commitment of service; giving back to one's community.

High school seniors are eligible to apply for $3 million in college scholarship: 250 awards are presented annually with 50 scholarships for $20,000 and 200 scholarships for $10,000. Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org today!

Wendy's High School Heisman
Deadline: October 1, 2009

The Wendy's High School Heisman award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. This prestigious award is a great addition to your college applications. Men and women entering their senior year who have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport are eligible.
